BUYING ADVICE FOR GARDENING EQUIPMENT

35 YEARS IN THE TRADE

PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING POINTS WHEN BUYING CHEAPER CHINESE IMPORT MACHINES SUCH AS CHAINSAWS:

  • Look out for cheaper machines with lower build quality. A chainsaw is a dangerous piece of equipment that needs to be sturdily built to reduce the risk of injury.
  • Buying a chainsaw online can often mean that the chainsaw needs to be put together once it arrives. It is extremely important for your safety and those around you that this is done correctly and that all the parts are of a good standard.
  • Chainsaws, and other garden machinery, need regular servicing to ensure they are safe and last as long as possible. Always use a professional.
  • Some cheaper alternatives to the leading brands are not fit for purpose. For instance:
    • Does the blade bend on contact with wood?
    • Is the safety bat strong enough?
    • Are the parts of a high enough quality that they won't snap or buckle after a few uses?
  • Ask the seller's advice and ensure you are buying both the correct weight and engine size for your needs.
  • Low vibration levels in the handle and a good centre of gravity are welcome features, particularly if using the saw for any length of time.
  • When buying a chainsaw consider the manufacturer. If something were to go wrong would parts be readily available?
